Caroline
Acrylics
and mixed media painting on canvas - based on sessions 2 and 3 - selecting
a subject from a current event or news item and conveying emotion and
feeling.
Caroline says: "I was trying to use colour and texture to produce
the same feelings of happiness and calm that I feel when I see the 'carpet'
of bluebells in Methley woods!"
This painting immediately grabs and places the observer into the middle
of a common Spring-time woodland scene. There's a feeling of cool shade
with early misty light promising emergence into warmth. The feeling of
stillness, coupled with the quality of mystery that woods often illicit,
is accentuated by the technique of difusing clarity and detail.

Michelle
An
oil pastel drawing based on sessions 2 and 3 - selecting a subject from
a current event or news item and conveying emotion and feeling.
Michelle has done an excellent job of expressing the excitement, energy
and speed, associated with this scene from the Tour de Yorkshire.
The use of smudging to blur detail, together with strong, angular lines,
all work together extremely well to jointly convey the feelings of both
participants and observers.

Denise
A
line drawing based on session 4 - The Secret Life of a Matchbox.
Denise has a great eye for the intricate - expressing detail that pulls
the observer towards and into her drawing.

Sonia
A
pencil drawing based on session 4 - The Secret Life of a Matchbox.
Sonia handles her medium with competence and flare, producing a work of
surreal quality - where the trees turn to colour and become the flames
of a fire.
Using colour, only outside of the confines of the matchbox, works really
effectively and adds a sense of mystery and magic.

Ann
A
watercolour based on session 4 - The Secret Life of a Matchbox.
Ann produces a relaxed and playful freshness in this little painting.
With a still-life juxtaposition and a slightly quirky positioning of the
matchbox tray on top of its box, it feels as if we are viewing a garden
designer's vision at the Chelsea Flower Show.
